Multitone Deaf Alert

This is already compulsory in many other countries, but unfortunately only found in few cases in Germany: The issue of special paging receivers for the hearing impaired in municipal facilities, department stores or shopping malls. In these buildings, there are issuing points where hearing-impaired people can obtain this device free of charge for the duration of their stay. In the event of a fire or disaster alarm, information is provided via this medium, as the acoustic alarm systems are not suitable for this group of people.

However, these systems are not only used in public buildings. Many companies have employees with hearing impairments. There, too, those affected do not notice a fire or disaster alarm and therefore remain at their workplace.

The Multitone solution is connected to the fire alarm system via a contact or a data interface. In the event of an alarm, a message is then immediately sent to the paging system and the alarm message is transmitted to all paging receivers. Since the signaling tone is often not perceptible for the hearing impaired, the reception of the alarm messages is indicated optically and additionally by a built-in vibration module (two-senses principle). The vibration attracts the attention of the receiver, who can then read the text of the alarm message (e. g. "fire alarm") on the display.

Multitone solutions for inclusive workplaces to safeguard hearing impaired people

Especially for hearing-impaired employees, Multitone offers effective messaging solutions for notification in case of danger. Small, handy paging receivers are part of the information chain. The fire alarm system or the building monitoring system is connected to the compact Multitone central system via a contact or a data interface. In the event of an alarm, the alarm message is transmitted within seconds as an individual or group call and is announced by a very loud and long signal tone, a visual signal and additionally by a built-in vibration module. In this way, hearing-impaired employees are reliably informed of a fire or other dangerous situations (two-senses principle) and can quickly leave the building according to defined and tested routine procedures.

These solutions are now used in a wide variety of areas and sectors, e.g. public authorities, vocational training centres, trade and industry. A representative article with video was published on this.

Cooperation with the Ceratizit Group in the planning and construction of one of the world's largest EkoSecure® personal emergency signal systems

Together with its local partner, Telkea ICT, Multiton Elektronik GmbH has planned and implemented one of the world's largest EkoSecure® personal emergency signal systems (PNA) at the CERATIZIT Luxembourg headquarters.

For more than 95 years CERATIZIT has been developing and manufacturing sophisticated hard material solutions for cutting and wear protection: whether highly specialized cutting tools, indexable inserts, carbide rods or new carbide and cermet grades, for example for wood and stone machining.

For the protection of lone workers and maintenance technicians, an area of around 400 x 300 meters was networked with radio technology both indoors and outdoors. In this area there are different buildings with up to 4 floors, laboratories, production halls and office areas.

Multitone's EkoSecure® PNA is equipped with handy, user-friendly mobile messengers (PNG), so that in case of emergency, help can be directed to the scene immediately and in a targeted manner. In addition, a willful or non-willful alarm is also triggered in case of need. In this case, the alarm as well as the position of the employee is transmitted to the colleagues' personal emergency signal device (PNG) or the personal emergency signal receiving centre (PNEZ) with area accuracy and within seconds. EkoSecure® is certified by the DGUV according to DIN VDE V 0825-1. In addition, there is the option to expand the system in the future with a compatible alarm server. With the Multiton i-Message alarm server, external locations can be integrated and emergency plans can be controlled centrally. In addition, an i-Message app developed by Multitone supports the forwarding of alarms and time-critical messages along with images, audio and video files to commercially available smartphones outside the sites. The data itself remains secure on the user's server.

Cooperation with Hottinger Baldwin Messtechnik GmbH in the planning and installation of an EkoSecure® personal emergency signal system (PNA)

Multiton Elektronik GmbH has planned and implemented a comprehensive EkoSecure® personal emergency signal system (PNA) to safeguard lone workers at the Darmstadt headquarter of Hottinger Baldwin Messtechnik GmbH (HBM).

Since 1950, HBM has been the market leader for precise and reliable measurement products. Measurement data from HBM is an important guide for tens of thousands of users worldwide in all phases of the product life cycle: design, development, production and maintenance.

With subsidiaries in 30 countries, HBM provides its customers worldwide with results you can trust.

The scope of the personal emergency signal system (PNA) now implemented at the Darmstadt headquarters covers all stand-alone workstations in the areas of production, test engineering, test laboratories and water treatment. Employees are equipped with a total of 14 handy, user-friendly mobile messengers (PNG), so that in an emergency, help can be directed to the scene of the incident immediately and in a targeted manner. Depending on the need, a willing or unwilling alarm is triggered. The alarm as well as the position of the employee is transmitted to the PNG of the colleagues or the personal emergency signal receiving centre (PNEZ) at the gate with area accuracy and within seconds. The entire radio network is highly reliable and has been implemented without complex cabling. EkoSecure® is certified by the DGUV according to DIN VDE V 0825-1.

"Hottinger Baldwin Messtechnik relies on an up-to-date and effective quality management system to manufacture its products. A key element of this QM system is the safety of employees in the various production areas and offices throughout the HBM premises in Darmstadt. The personal emergency signal system from Multitone is an important part of our safety concept," explains Thomas Bach, Team Leader of the Torque Department.

"We are pleased about the good cooperation with Hottinger Baldwin Messtechnik GmbH," explains Frank Rotthoff, Managing Director of Multiton Elektronik GmbH, and adds: "With EkoSecure® we have been able to implement the latest technology for in-house occupational safety at stand-alone workstations. The wireless networking of the components means that there is no need for cost-intensive cabling. This means that the system can be installed in a very short time and without great expense, and can also be expanded in the future if required. A modern solution for the future," Rotthoff continues.

Cooperation with the Protestant Hospital Bethel in the planning and installation of the radio nurse call solution EkoCare®

For more than 25 years MULTITONE has been supporting the Protestant Hospital Bethel in an advisory and executive capacity with their requirements in the field of time-critical message transmission and alerting. As early as 1994, a "paging system" developed by MULTITONE with its own self-sufficient radio network was set up at the Bethel Protestant Hospital.

Even by today's standards, the reliability of such systems is largely unrivalled. In the past as well as today, they have helped in sub-areas with the time-critical message transmission of persons or entire groups  "Emergency, urgently report to department C2".

Furthermore, since 2011, the clinic has additionally relied on the EkoTek® personal security system developed and patented by MULTITONE in various security-relevant areas, as well as the EkoCare® wireless nurse call system since 2019. Here, employees are equipped with handy and user-friendly mobile messengers so that in an emergency, help can be directed to the scene of the incident immediately and in a targeted manner. In addition, a willful or non-willful alarm can be triggered if necessary. In this case, the alarm as well as the position of the employee is transmitted to the messenger of the colleagues or to a central office with area accuracy and within seconds.

With the innovative EkoCare® radio nurse call system from MULTITONE, a concept has now been implemented at Johannesstift which, in addition to equipping the rooms and bathrooms with clear wall call, bathroom modules and room corridor lights, also includes mobile and user-friendly hand-held transmitters for the nursing staff. This allows both assistance and emergency calls to be sent in seconds from any location within the radio network to colleagues in the home or the care staff room. The exact location of the person calling for help is transmitted with each call, thus enabling immediate and targeted deployment of nursing staff.

Safeguarding of nursing staff and patients at Capio Maria Clinic, Stockholm

Capio Maria Clinic in Stockholm is a specialist clinic for the outpatient and inpatient treatment of drug and alcohol dependent patients. As in all medical facilities, effective and time-critical communication is essential for smooth operations. Due to the potential danger in a facility of this type, it is important to protect caregivers and patients in the best possible way in the event of an emergency.

The requirement

Capio Maria Clinic's existing wired emergency call system had significant limitations in operation, maintenance and expandability. In the event of an alarm, site personnel were notified with voice messages over loudspeakers. A less than discreet and rather disruptive form of notification in the daily routine.

The hospital therefore decided to introduce a modern nurse call and personal security solution. The requirements were discussed with LOTS Security AB, the hospital's supplier of time-critical communication solutions since 1995. After a thorough review of the specifications, LOTS Security AB designed Multitone's EkoTek® nurse call and personal security solution, a wireless radio communication system using multi-channel technology.

The solution

EkoTek® was implemented in seven wards, over four floors for defined areas and teams. The system includes 200 mobile emergency signal transmitters (messengers) and more than 400 radio transmitters (repeaters).

The configuration of the system took into account the requirements of the staff as well as their habit of working with voice alarms. The messengers were programmed in such a way that, in addition to text messages, different sound signals can also be transmitted. These allow immediate classification of requests and responses - from emergency calls to assistance requests, to patient calls.

In addition to locating nursing staff in the event of an emergency call or assistance request, the radio transmitters (repeaters) are also used for the nurse call. This can be triggered by the patients' small handy call FOBs, motion detectors, door alarms or other connected devices.

The result

The radio-based EkoTek® system offers caregivers and patients much more mobility while providing the security of being able to call for help immediately and in a targeted manner. In addition, the installation and maintenance of the system is much less time-consuming and disruptive to the day-to-day running of the hospital than a wired solution.

The new emergency signaling devices enable the nursing staff to identify the type and priority of the message by means of the sound signal without having to look at the display. This is particularly useful when responding to emergency calls from care staff in difficult or dangerous situations.
