Neat solution: scrubbing agents for skin cleansing
Skin cleansing products for highly-adhesive dirt contain scrubbing agents in order to support the effect of the surfactants in a mechanical way. Scrubbing agents resolve heavy dirt and also remove residues adhering to skin folds.
Scrubbing agents like sand or powder made of walnut shells, corn cobs or plastics remove dirt exclusively by mechanical rubbing. Thus, the horny layer of the skin gets abraded at the same time and the risk of contact allergies increases. Sharp-edged scrubbing agents like sand or walnut shells powder also increase the danger of micro injuries. When being applied frequently, irritant contact dermatitis can be the result in extreme cases.
The innovative Active Soft Pearls (ASP) support the cleansing effect doubly: On the one hand, they resolve dirt particles mechanically, and on the other hand, they bind oily dirt due to their lipophilic surface structure. ASP are soft and smooth pearls made of herbal wax, which do not cause abrasion or damage.
Gentle, effective and environmentally friendly cleansing
Skin cleansing agents have to meet high requirements. The cleansing always has to be as skin-friendly as possible, but at the same time, dirt is supposed to be removed effectively and with a preferably small effort. Environmental compatibility is also of great importance. Scrubbing agents do not only have to fulfil these criteria, but in addition to that, they have to be optimally suitable for the application in cleansing agents by not setting limits to product development.

A new era dawns
Persons working with lubricants, bitumen, graphite, soot or other highly-adhesive substances like varnish and glue, often apply skin cleansers with scrubbing agents several times a day. In order to prevent skin damage, it is essentially important that all ingredients of the used product work in a gentle way.
For the very first time, the new generation of scrubbing agents offers a skin-protecting solution which ensures an effective cleansing as well as abrasive scrubbing agents do: dirt-removing agents made of wax – Active Soft Pearls.
The cleansing effect of Active Soft Pearls (ASP) is no longer achieved by merely mechanical scrubbing, but is primarily based on their lipophilic features. Therefore, they are not called scrubbing agents but dirt-removing agents.
The advantages at a glance
Dermatologically proven compatibility
Active Soft Pearls are wax pearls made of hydrogenated castor oil, which have a soft and smooth surface. When being applied in skin cleansing agents, ASP do not support the cleansing process of the tensides merely by mechanical scrubbing –like abrasives do-, but primarily by their lipophilic surface structure which binds oily dirt particles. Thus, the wax pearls resolve dirt without abrading or damaging the skin. On the contrary: ASP even unfold an active positive effect since waxes smoothen and care for the skin.
This is also proven by a dermatological research by Prof. Vera Mahler (dermatological clinic of the University of Erlangen), which was published in the British Journal of Dermatology. In direct comparison to walnut shell powder, the dirt-removing agents made of hydrogenated castor oil demonstrated a far better compatibility and an equal cleansing effect.
After an application for several weeks in the course of the research, the skin damage caused by walnut shell powder was easily recognisable. It was expressed in an increase of trans-epidermal water loss as well as by a distinct skin irritation, which even forced three participants to cancel the trial.
However, all participants of the research easily tolerated the dirt-removing agents ASP in the course of the entire application period. Even the especially sensitive group of atopy sufferers did not notice negative implications.
Developer and manufacturer of the first dirt-binding agent made of wax is Peter Greven Physioderm GmbH, which filed a patent application for the innovative product.
